High-quality scientific advice is an essential ingredient of evidence-based policy making, and so I was delighted to hear that the Ministry for Primary Industries has appointed Dr Ian Ferguson MNZM, Chief Scientist at Plant and Food Research, as their first Departmental Science Adviser. I congratulate the Ministry on this far-sighted appointment and look forward to working with Dr Ferguson in his new role. Further information is available here.
